TEED 521
view the PowerPoint presentation on Health and Fitness
Directions: You will be exploring a range
of web-based resources for health and fitness that you can use in your classroom.
From this exploration, we will add to our Health and Fitness web page that
provides resources for your use during student teaching and beyond (http://classes.seattleu.edu/masters_in_teaching/teed521/professor/PElinks.html).
1. Form groups of 3-4 representing similar student teaching grade levels (e.g.,
K-1, 2-3, 4-5, 5-6, and middle school). Make sure that everyone becomes part
of a team.
2. In the context of your student teaching classrooms, discuss the health
and fitness needs of your students. Consider the following questions:
3. Go to Loyola 300 and enter the TEED 521 Health and Fitness Exploration web page: http://classes.seattleu.edu/masters_in_teaching/teed521/professor/healthfit.htm.
4. In light of what you’ve discussed, now look at the EALRs in Health/Fitness (http://www.k12.wa.us/curriculumInstruct/healthfitness/ealrs.aspx) for the benchmark closest to your grade level. As you explore the web sites listed on the class web page and below, look for specific activities, instructional strategies, and other resources that will help you address these standards and meet the students’ needs that you identified in #2 above.
5. Find three or four web sites that address specific EALR benchmarks. Email
a brief annotation for each site to Mark (mroddy@seattleu.edu). Include
the following:
URL,
title of the site,
sponsoring organization (if applicable),
the EALR(s) (or GLE(s)) addressed, and
a short description of how the site would help
you meet the standard.
Example:
Be prepared to present the best site you’ve
found to the entire class (2 minutes maximum).
